Insulation, size, colour, budget, maintenance and lifespan: what to look at when comparing aluminium and PVC windows.
The most common question when replacing windows or planning a new building: aluminium or PVC? Both systems last for years when chosen correctly; the difference lies in the project’s needs.
1. Thermal and acoustic insulation
Multi-chamber PVC profiles offer high insulation on an economical budget. Thermally broken aluminium reaches similar values with the right glass.
2. Opening size
Aluminium’s strength stands out in wide, tall openings; slim frames mean more glass and light.
3. Colour and appearance
Aluminium offers any RAL colour, anodised and wood-grain finishes; PVC offers white and coloured foils.
4. Budget
PVC is usually more economical for the same size; aluminium pays off over time in commercial and wide-opening projects.
5. Maintenance
Both need little maintenance; no annual hinge service is needed — a little oil on the moving parts now and then is enough.
6. Lifespan
With quality profiles, the right hardware and good workmanship, both last for decades. Let’s decide together during the survey, based on your sizes and budget.
